Hello Beautiful Ones,

I’ve been rather quiet over the past 2-3 weeks, but I am still here, just dealing with a busy schedule and some medical problems.

Today’s post is just a short one, but it’s always nice to share some of what I’ve been working on 🙂
Here are a couple of favourite images that Hannah chose from her session a couple of weeks ago 🙂 I love seeing the reactions when clients view their images and they love them 🙂 Makes what I do so worth it 🙂

I’ve also managed to make someone smile who was experiencing uncertainty in whether she was following the right path with her goals, which is lovely 🙂

Remember everyone, SMILE! You’re beautiful! 🙂

Stay Beautiful,

Colette Duggan.

Lingerie Is Not Porn – An Article From The Lingerie Addict

Hello Beautiful Ones,

I read an article on The Lingerie Addict yesterday that I really want to share with you. This is really important since lingerie is so strongly related to Boudoir, so the stigma many associate with lingerie also extends to Boudoir. When people see lingerie, and henceforth Boudoir, as porn, they completely miss the real purpose of it. Cora from TLA sums it up perfectly:

“As a lingerie blogger and, more importantly, as a consumer of lingerie, I firmly believe that intimate apparel, as the name implies, is a deeply personal form of attire.  It can be an entirely valid means to self-discovery and self-expression, and for some people, their underwear is the only place they get to truly be who they are and wear what they want.”

In other words, lingerie is about wearing what they love, whether others like it or not. It is about bringing beauty into the world and about seeing yourself as beautiful. This is also the purpose of Boudoir. After all, as I say on my website, creating a gift for their partner is only the excuse to do a Boudoir session most of the time, it is not the reason for it.

I’m not saying that lingerie can’t be used for that purpose though. Certainly, there are brands of lingerie designed with seduction in mind. That’s perfectly fine. But that in no way means that all lingerie should be put into the same category. As I said above, lingerie, in general, is about personal expression. About looking and feeling beautiful. Not just looking sexy. The sooner we can spread the word and remove the stigma, the better.

What Are You Really Buying?

Hello Beautiful Ones,

Today I’d like to go into more detail as to what you are really buying when you book a Boudoir or Glamour Portrait Session with me, since I haven’t really explained it properly. For that, I apologise.

After all, some of you may wonder whether it is worth paying lots of money just to get some portraits of yourself, when there are photographers out there charging cheaper prices, or when you could just take a selfie and post it straight to facebook. Why you would spend heaps of money buying prints and albums from the photographer that took your photographs, when you could just go down to your nearest BigW, get prints cheaper and buy a cheap $20 slip in album or frame to put them in?

And yes, when you look at it that way, when you only see the physical products as the purchase, buying prints and albums from the photographer seems kind of pointless and a waste of money.

But, the thing is, when you buy prints and albums from your photographer, you’re not actually buying the prints and albums (hang on, what was that Colette?) Well, you are, but stick with me and I’ll explain.

When you book and pay for a session with me, you aren’t just buying a session, you are buying an opportunity to rediscover your beautiful, confident, sensual goddess within and let her shine, which in turn, will give you a boost and fill you with a joy you won’t get from selfies.

You aren’t just buying canvas and framed prints and albums from me, you are buying a high quality, long-lasting and absolutely gorgeous reminder of how beautiful you are, which you will get to see every day.

You are buying a breath-taking reminder of that golden opportunity, which you can look back on, 10, 20, 30+ years from now.

You are buying a personalised gift that your partner will absolutely adore. Something that only you can give, which is the best gift of all.

You are showing your support for the rediscovery of beauty in every woman, no matter what stage she is at in her life.

You are showing support and encouragement for those in the world whose mental illness keeps them from being able to do things like and-in some cases-be treated the same way as everyone else and as a result, may not be able to see their beauty.

You are helping to make the world a more beautiful place. One woman at a time.

I don’t know about you, but to me, that is worth every cent.

To finish off, I found this image on facebook the other day, which addresses this (not for photography, but lingerie is also relevant).

Stay Beautiful,

Colette Duggan.

A day of thought adjustment in the little city of Adelaide.

Hello Beautiful Ones,

Today I’ve been adjusting some thought patterns that aren’t doing me any good, and about time too.

I’m sure you all know those thought patterns. I’m not good enough. No one loves me. I’m not beautiful enough.

Yep, I’m pretty certain most of us have thought the last one. More than we’d care to admit. But today, I had a look at the negative thoughts that affect me the most, whether they were regular thoughts, or just ones that pop up occasionally. Even if it was only thought once, it has to go.

So I sat down with a cup of Green Tea with Apple Cider Vinegar and Honey, some instrumental music playing in the background and pen and paper and came up with this list of thoughts that are not doing me any good:

  • I don’t have enough.
  • I’m not good enough.
  • No one wants what I have to offer.
  • No one wants me.
  • No one cares about the things I care about.
  • I’m a failure.
  • Nothing is working.
  • I hate my hair.
  • I’m not beautiful enough.
  • The world is #*@%&! and there’s nothing I can do about it.
  • Everyone else gets the things I want the most and I don’t.

These are all things I have thought when things are going badly. The funny thing is though, when you begin to think these kinds of things, you begin to think it more. And more. Soon it becomes the only thing you can see and you believe it to be true. And that in a way, makes it become true, at least to you.

Other people tend to pick up on this negative feeling though. And the more you convince yourself that these kinds of thoughts are true, the more they get reflected in your dealings with others and the world around you.

Now, perhaps you may be reading this and saying “that’s ridiculous Colette. How could that possibly work?” But trust me, words are incredibly powerful. They can make a person believe that they are worthless. They can make a person believe that the world is better off without them.

On the other hand, when used in a positive way, words can make a person believe that they are important. That they can make a difference in the world. That they are loved. It’s all a matter of perspective.

So, now for the list of thoughts to counteract the thoughts above. But before I tell you what they are. I will share my criteria for these thoughts.

  1. They had to be helpful (or in other words, they had to be positive rather than negative. And,
  2. They had to be true.

That meant that I couldn’t just jump on the internet and pull a heap of generalised ‘positive affirmations’ from some website. They had to come from me. They had to be things that I could think of myself and think “that makes me feel good and I am able to believe that.”

Are you ready? Here they are:

  • The Universe (God(s)/Goddess(es)/The World/Whatever else you want to put here) will always provide me with what I need.
  • I am good enough and I deserve to be happy and have good things.
  • People do want what I have to offer. I just need to either look in other places to find those people or see how I can better help the people I have contact with already.
  • The people that matter want me and love me.
  • The right people care about the things I care about, I just need to find them.
  • I am not a failure, for I have known and still know success, no matter how big or small.
  • I will find what works and go with it.
  • My hair is wild, untameable and beautiful, like myself.
  • I am beautiful.
  • I will be the change I want to see in the world.
  • Those things would not help me, the Universe (God(s)/Goddess(es)/The World/Whatever else you want to put here) will always give me what is best for me.

It was incredible reading through that list with the knowledge that each one was both helpful to me and true. After all positive affirmations from the internet can only go so far. In order to make the change from negative thinking to positive thinking the replacement thoughts need to be more than just positive. They need to be true.

So, what negative, unhelpful thoughts do you find yourself entertaining? And what positive, truthful thoughts can you replace them with?

Comment under this post with your lists! I’d love to hear them 🙂

Stay Beautiful,

Colette Duggan.

I was prompted to finally do this after reading this article by Amita from Aligned Holistics.

Boudoir Up North

My Boudoir Travels

Hi Beautiful Ones!

Yesterday was a rare occurrence. For the first time in a while, both my husband and I managed to get a whole day to ourselves where he didn’t have to work and I didn’t have any fashion or Boudoir sessions happening.

So naturally, we celebrated by taking the motorbike out for a ride to some places I’d never been to and he’d never been to with me and we spent the day riding around enjoying the scenery.

We travelled about 370km between about 10:30am and 4:30pm and spent a couple of hours walking around a couple of the towns we stopped at too. Our planned destination was Wallaroo, but we stopped in Kadina for about an hour, wandering around looking through shops and stopping for lunch (the café/bakery we stopped at had the coolest little vinegar bottles which meant that we could have our chips the way we liked them, a little bit of chip with our salt and vinegar), and also stopped at Moonta as well for a while, looking through the antiques shop full of pretty furniture with high price tags and of course the hardware shop for my husband who likes to spend lots of his minimal spare time in the shed armouring and blacksmithing (and the rest at the SCA and with me of course 😉 ).

Here’s a map to give you an idea of how far we went (from near the South Rd overpass to Wallaroo-that’s the one in red-and back again via Moonta and another few small towns a bit further south of Moonta).

The landscape was gorgeous (though some of the roads reminded me of the road to Silverton from Broken Hill. If you’ve never been there, it’s dip city. I spent the entire 90km/h ride there and back clinging on for dear life, feeling as though I would be thrown off the bike at any moment) and a thought that stayed with me for a lot of the journey was that if I could learn to teleport, I would be happy to live out there (but mainly about Broken Hill, although the houses are quite expensive there).

However, it got me thinking about how many photographers are actually out there, especially for Boudoir and Beauty Portrait Photography. My guess would be not many, if any at all (but if you are a Boudoir/Beauty Portrait photographer out that way, comment and say hi! 🙂 ), so I was wondering whether anyone up that way would be keen to have me come out that way for a session, or perhaps even a Boudoir or Beauty Portrait weekend.

I know that living out that way creates a great deal of distance and separation from everything happening in the city centre and surrounding areas that I experience everyday and take for granted, so I’d like to take the opportunity to extend the invitation to those of you living in that area (or other regional areas in SA) to express interest in having a Boudoir or Beauty Portrait session or weekend in your area.

I love to travel (living in one area with limited travel opportunities for the best part of 19 years, with fantastic experiences when I did get to travel will do that to a person 🙂 ), so I would love to see more of South Australia and meet those of you in more remote areas! 🙂

Alternatively, if you live further South (all the way to Mount Gambier) let me know 🙂

And if you live out at Broken Hill and would love a session, let me know too (you may be in NSW, but you run on SA time which is close enough), any excuse to go back will do 🙂

Stay Beautiful!

Colette Duggan.

P.s. If you have any friends living in these areas that you think would be interested, be sure to let them know! 🙂

See the world from a new Perspective and join a good cause! All while having heaps of fun and looking absolutely stunning!

Special Offers and Sponsorship

Hello beautiful ones!

Welcome to my blog! The first post of many and I can’t wait to get to know you all and let you all get to know me! 🙂

Today’s post may seem a little unrelated to what I do. After all, what does a student photography exhibition have to do with boudoir photography?

However, this group of amazing graduating advanced diploma photography students that I have gotten to know over the last (almost) two years have so much to offer in their respective fields, but they need sponsorship, both financially and in the form of prizes for their fundraising events.

So, until the end of November, I will be donating $50 of my session fee for each half hour session booked and $100 for each hour long session. That’s a third of what I earn from each session which goes towards helping you plan your session, the session itself, preparing your images for the viewing after your session and the viewing session itself, the rest of course going towards the cost of locations, professional hair and makeup and all the other expenses involved in organising each session. This offer is also valid for my Boudoir Weekends!

I will also donate two gift bags for every 50 comments this post gets as prizes for their quiz night fundraiser!

So get on board and support the second year Photo Imaging students’ exhibition ‘Perspective’ with me and get some stunning images and have heaps of fun at the same time! The second year students are truly talented and believe me, it will be money well spent towards a great cause! 🙂

Stay beautiful everyone! 🙂

Colette Duggan.
